Neue Grundschule Lehe

The Neue Grundschule Lehe has been designed for 260 students in grades 1 through 4. It is part of Bremerhaven’s IPA school construction project “3 Schools Alliance” (Allianz 3 Schulen Bremerhaven) and replaces temporary modular buildings in which classes had been held since 2018. With its full day-care facilities and leisure offerings, the school serves as an important social meeting place for children and families in the neighborhood.

The school is located in close proximity to the secondary school at Ernst Reuter Platz, to St. Paul’s Church, and the Bremerhaven municipal administration, and is embedded in a setting of residential buildings and green spaces. On the ground floor, a multifunctional forum with an adjoining library forms the center of the school. This central gathering space can be used for events and group activities, and during breaks. A broad staircase with integrated seating in the middle of the room also serves as an informal gathering space.

On the upper floor, the building is divided into three clusters designed for cross-grade, project-based forms of learning. Each cluster—comprising one class from each of grades 1 through 4—has its own dedicated area with an open central learning zone and shared spaces. In addition to open learning landscapes, the school also offers retreat areas, such as a quiet and sensory room, which is particularly used by children with increased sensory and special educational needs.
